Shamanic Drumming Circle
7.00pm until 9.30pm (add this)
The Rainbow Rooms, First Floor, 8-14 High Street, Rayleigh, Essex. SS6 7EF (map)
These informal gatherings are an opportunity to get together with like-minded people to learn and practise shamanic techniques as well as honing your drumming skills through free-form sessions and explorations of shamanic drumming techniques. Bring a drum if you have one as there are only a few spare for use by people who have no drum of their own. No experience necessary!
Shamanic drumming circles are usually held on the 1st Thursday of the month and are organised and hosted by Mark Barwell (www.MarkBarwell.co.uk) and Jo Gray (www.JoGrayMassage.co.uk). The cost is only £10 per person for over 2 hours of drumming and shamanic work.
Access to The Rainbow Rooms is through Berry's Arcade. Enter via the eastern end of the arcade (High Street side, opposite The Pink Toothbrush nightclub) and the door to the upper floors is on the left hand side (you will see The Rainbow Rooms in the list of companies on the wall). Go up the stairs and take the second door on the left. This is the Rainbow Rooms (there will be a plaque on the door to indicate this)!
If you need help in getting to the venue, there may be spaces available in cars travelling there and back. Please Get In Touch if you need help with this or with any other information relating to the circle. Shamanic Rattle Making workshop
10.00am until 4.00pm (add this)
Southend-on-Sea (map)
On this workshop you will make a shamanic rattle for use in healing work and ceremonies. An initial visit to the woods will allow you to be drawn to the wood that will become your handle before crafting it from the raw materials.
The rattle head is fashioned from deerskin, following a design of your choice and this is then prepared for drying. The second day of the workshop will see you attaching the head to the handle before decorating your new rattle with whatever you feel like (some decorative items are provided).
You will then learn techniques for using your rattle in energy and healing work as well as undertaking a shamanic journey (similar to a guided meditation) to meet the spirits of your rattle and to dedicate it to its new purpose.
For more information and to book your place with a deposit, visit: http://markbarwell.co.uk/shamanic_rattle_making_workshop.php
This workshop also forms part of the Shamanic Practitioner Training. For more details, visit: http://markbarwell.co.uk/shamanic_practitioner_training_course.php

Reiki Share

Contact Mark for location details (map)
Reiki shares are an opportunity to come along and give and receive Reiki healing in the company of fellow practitioners. The shares are open to anyone who has been trained in Reiki, irrespective of level or system.
These sessions offer the chance to explore the use of Reiki energy through traditional meditations, techniques of working with energy, and various other exercises. There will also be the opportunity to share Reiki using an intuitive, non-structured approach.
Each session will be held at a different venue (usually at a participant's house) and the organiser supports the process by supplying teas, coffee and biscuits. There is no charge for attending the Reiki shares although a £2 donation would be appreciated to cover the costs of hosting.
For details on the location of this share, please contact Mark on 01702 430106 or via email: mark@markbarwell.co.uk
Shares lasts for approximately 3 hours and are held on a monthly basis.

Shamanic Drum Making workshop
11.00am until 3.00pm (add this)
Southend-on-Sea (map)
This workshop will show you how to create your very own shamanic drum from traditional raw materials and also includes a shamanic journey (similar to a guided mediation) to meet the spirits of your drum, after you have made it.
Includes all materials to create a 15" frame drum with beater. Please note that this workshop uses animal products that have been ethically sourced and a full explanation of honouring their use within the context of sacred items will be given.
The frames are made by the same person (also a shamanic practitioner) who sources and prepares the animal skins from a local forest in the Lake District. The drum differs from the picture shown (which is the drum I made for myself a few years ago) but is of a similar style. The frames we will be using on this workshop are pine and 12-sided; the animal is deer. For an additional supplement of £10 per drum, round ash frames can be ordered instead.
Deposits are required at least a month in advance of the workshop date so that raw materials can be ordered and frames constructed.
